Maryolga Nieto

(Venezuela, 1963) tells big stories in more or less paintings. Color contracts (ranging from tender to splashing) and texture (through scratches in the paint or a build-up of layers of paint) play a major part in her vibrant canvases. Life is the subject of Nieto’s work. Capturing life is the essence of her artistic quest. One may enjoy the rich and forceful colors, while another perceives the balance between technical progress and nature.

New work

“After years of investigating new techniques I began to explore and discover the amazing possibilities of using spectrum of light. In addition I also introduced new contemporary mediums and added new elements to my work.

I think, my work is likely to be judged differently by each person who experiences it. For this, I use visions, textures and images that are captured by the light and in one unexpected crucial moment are transformed from their original white canvas texture form, into a complete different vibrant composition.

This is a mystery within a creation, which has multiple meanings through the personal interpretation of the viewers.

You will not find a definite description of any particular painting. Each work of art requires an engagement, an effort of the viewer. It is a contemplative, in a typical Latin American way, going behind what is immediately visible.”

"Oh my God! I can not believe it"
"This work really inspires the imagination of the viewers and allows them to look deeper into the paintings and to feel like they are part of it"
"How it was possible? It is amazing...wow!"
