Take the VIRTUAL TOUR of the LAKMA

The building for the LAKMA is located at the Utrechtseweg 12 in Amersfoort, it was designed in 1959 and constructed in 1960/1961 by the architect J. H. Oosterhuis from Amersfoort (1909 - 2000).

The principle/commissioning party was the former insurance company Levob and is now owned byABC Vastgoed(ABC Real Estate). The building has five open and spacious levels each with convenient and suitable facilities; such as, elevator, emergency exits and a large fire & security bank safe volt on each floor, ideal for safeguarding valuable works of art. ABC Vastgoed has recently stripped the building from all its later adaptations, like low ceilings and board walls, which has given the building its original clearness and transparency.Take the virtual tour ›

THE CITY COUNCIL OF AMERSFOOORT GAVE IT'S APPROVAL FOR THE LAKMA.

The board of the foundation and its adviser Mr. Paul van Royen met on the 13th of November with Mrs. Caroline De Boer from the cultural department of the City of Amersfoort; the purpose of this meeting was to deliver the required strategic plan, update the city council with regards of the development of the project and to request all further requirements needed to include the LAKMA in to the cultural program of the city of Amersfoort.

As result of this meeting The Major of Amersfoort as well as the head of culture tourism and sports together with the Elder man of the city council gave unanimous approval to this initiative on the 19th of December 2009.

The city council considers the development of the city as a task that belongs not only to the city congress but also to the population and regards the LAKMA as a positive complement to the list of cultural programming of the city that will bring not only national but also international significance.

BE PART OF THE INITIATIVE

Founding Circle of Members will receive permanent exposure and recognition.

Without its supporters, the Latin Art Museum of Amersfoort will just be a building with beautiful art inside rather than the living, breathing cultural exchange its destined to be. With help from friends like you, the LAKMA will play a vital role in the artistic life of the Netherlands, providing an environment that inspires active, life-long connection to the arts. There are a number of ways to get involved and make the Latin American Art Museum of Amersfoort your museum; so please, take the time to see how you can become a part of the project.

LAKMA Right Columun - LAKMA Latin American Art & Culture

The Future is clear.
The city of Amersfoort is working it's way towards being an important art and culture landmark for the Netherlands.

INTERESTING FACTS

With a total of almost one thousand museums, The Netherland has the greatest number of museums of the world; on the other hand, regardless of the great Dutch-Hispanic population, tourism exchange, vast commerce with Latin America and the fact that Dutch history is strongly tied to Spain due to years of occupation in the 14th century and to Latin American colonization period, not a single museum of Spanish and Latin art has been established in this country. With this initiative we open the very first Museum exclusive for Latin American Art in the Nederland, this museum will hold a permanent collection of important Latin artists and will serve as a gateway of cultural exchange between Latin America, Spain and The Nederland. This project will allow us to hold numerous educative activities for children, enrich the Amersfoort culture, attract tourism as well as support numerous charitable projects.
